Colonel and I are trying to make an effort to visit all 3 English corners each week so that we have more opportunities to speak with people. Different people come on each night, so it gives us a great chance to reach a different type of student.
Earlier this week we met with two Colonel's friends. One is the girl from English corner who is also our family member. Her name is Jenny. Jenny brought along a friend named ZhuZhu. Colonel decided to meet with them to help ZhuZhu with her examination that she must take in order to continue her education.
We did mention some Higher Education type things while we were with them. Jenny was not shy in the least, but she kept inviting us to come with her to the Chinese meetings around here. We kept telling here that it doesn't benefit us or others to go to those meetings. We cannot speak Chinese and they cannot speak English. Also, the teachings at those meetings are not completely in keeping with the teachings of the Good Book. Anyway, I told Jenny about our goal here of getting something started in our own home and she didn't seem very interested in helping with that. That seems to be the feeling that I get from most of the people here. She did say that she'd talk to a small group that meets on campus to see if they would allow us to visit with them. That seemed really strange to me, but maybe it will help us to get a foot in the door here. It's difficult, because you never really know what you're getting into when you go to visit a random group. I guess we'll find out if they agree to let us visit them.
I've spent more time with my students Jasmine and Carol. They're really good girls and we find a lot to talk about. I really hope that my relationship with them leads to some Higher Education. Already we've touched on a few things, but there's so much to say and so little time to say it. I'll keep working out it though.
Colonel has had great success at English corner. His conversations have been very deep and focused on higher things. I'm really a bit jealous because I'm still getting questions about Chinese food and homeschooling. I always manage to get one or two ideas in before someone changes the subject to something else. It's really just hit and miss for me. I'll keep talking to the Father about this. I'm glad that one of us is making progress though.
